This is especially important when you work from home. While it’s tempting to roll out of bed and stay in your pajamas all day, doing so can seriously inhibit your work ethic. It will keep you in the mindset of watching TV and lounging on the couch. You’ll remain in a sedentary mood, and your motivation level won’t reach its peak. Select your clothing with intent, and you might just boost your productivity. (Science proves it!) Dress Like You Mean Business The way you dress has a genuine impact on your mood and behavior. As psychology professor Dr. Karen Pine told Forbes, “When we put on an item of clothing, it is common for the wearer to adopt the characteristics associated with that garment. A lot of clothing has symbolic meaning for us, whether it’s ‘professional work attire’ or ‘relaxing weekend wear,’ so when we put it on, we prime the brain to behave in ways consistent with that meaning.” Additionally, Scientific American drew from multiple studies to determine that proper work attire can improve everything from your negotiation skills to your ability to focus on a task. So before you hop on an important conference call or sit down to tackle your to-do list, consider switching out of your sweatpants and into something that makes you feel professional and confident. Choosing a Working-From-Home Uniform When you’re building an at-home work wardrobe, try out different styles to identify a “uniform” that you can turn to each day to make getting dressed a little easier. Maybe it’s jeans and a crisp button-down, your favorite T-shirt paired with khakis, or a comfortable dress and a cardigan. Take a shopping trip or browse the web to find new pieces that catch your interest. If you’re excited to wear it, it will put you in a better mood as you work. For those on a budget, consignment shops are a great option. Today, online second-hand stores like thredUP.com make it even easier to hunt for good deals. The great thing about working from home is the freedom that comes with it. Don’t be afraid to try a new style or outfit if it makes you feel strong and confident!
